Cornwall sits on the St. Lawrence between Ottawa and Montreal, about an hour and twenty minutes from one and an hour and forty from the other. It was founded by United Empire Loyalists in 1784 and it is genuinely bilingual by eastern Ontario standards, with roughly a quarter of residents reporting French as a mother tongue. The Mohawk territory of Akwesasne sits immediately south, spanning both the Canada and United States border and the Ontario and Quebec boundary.

The city that ran on textiles and paper is gone. Courtaulds closed its rayon mill in 1992 after employing nearly 3,000 people, and the Domtar paper mill closed in 2006. What replaced it is logistics. Cornwall now holds over five million square feet of warehouse space, including two Walmart distribution centres employing more than 2,500 people between them, a Loblaw facility, and a Michelin centre that opened in late 2024. Highway 401, a CN mainline and the Seaway all meet here.

For removal, eastern Ontario has meant driving to Ottawa. The nearest studio devoted only to removal is about eighty minutes away in the Glebe, and everything closer offers it alongside hair removal, facials and skin work. A full removal is eight or ten appointments across a year, so that drive is not a one-time inconvenience, it is the reason people put it off.
